Steven D. Thorne, PE, D.GE, M.ASCE, became the latest President of the Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA).  GBA is the new name of the organization formerly known as ASFE.  GBA’s purpose is to help geoprofessionals maximize their importance and value to the marketplace, achieve business excellence, and manage risk.

Mr. Thorne is the 44th individual to serve as the President of the organization and will serve in the position for one year.  He just finished up his Presidency at the Academy of Geo-Professionals last fall, and will rotate off the Board this fall after six years of service. 

He has 30 years of diversified geotechnical engineering consulting experience, including 25 years in positions of responsible charge involving the planning, supervision, management and/or review of over a thousand projects.

His experience has included most areas of geotechnical practice, with a special focus in the following areas: pile foundations, soft ground construction, slope stability, ground improvement, seismic evaluation and instrumentation. Professional experience has also included direction of geo-environmental work, including site investigation, remedial investigation and remedial action work.
