Thomas O'Rourke, Hon.D.GE, Gives Inaugural Le Val Lund Lecture |
ASCE's Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering (TCLEE) and Council on Disaster Risk Management (CDRM) sponsored the inaugural Le Val Lund Lecture and Award ceremony along with the ASCE Los Angeles Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch, Caltech, and USC on April 2, 2014. The event, held April 2, 2014, was at the Caltech Athenaeum in Pasadena, California. The first Le Val Lund Award for Practicing Lifeline Earthquake Engineering recipient was Dr. Thomas O’Rourke, PhD, Hon.D.GE, Dist.M.ASCE of Cornell University. Dr. O’Rourke also gave the first Le Val Lund Lecture Lifeline Infrastructure and Community Resilience at the event. The event was well attended and featured testimonials honoring Le Val Lund and Tom O’Rourke from an LA City Councilman, the LA City Deputy Mayor and the Civil Engineering Department Chairs from Caltech and USC. The event epitomized the intent of the award of promoting interaction between engineering professionals, community leaders, and educational research institutions and improvement of lifeline infrastructures to support community resilience.
