Bergstrom Voted by ABET Board as President-Elect |
On March 28, the ABET Board of Directors elected Wayne R. Bergstrom, PhD, PE, D.GE, F.ASCE, as its 2015-16 President-Elect. Bergstrom will be inaugurated at the fall 2015 ABET Board of Directors Meeting in October.
Dr. Bergstrom is a Bechtel Distinguished Engineer at Bechtel Infrastructure and Power Corporation where he has served as a Principal Engineer on a wide variety of globally distributed power generation and transmission projects. He has 37 years of civil/geotechnical engineering experience in governmental, industrial, and private practice employment. He has had direct responsibility for the investigation, design, permitting, and construction quality assurance for a range of civil, geotechnical, and geoenvironmental engineering projects. These projects have included waste management facilities, building and bridge foundations, dams, levees, navigation structures, and revetments.
Bergstrom is a licensed professional engineer in Maryland, Michigan, Ohio and New York. He was granted certification as a Diplomate, Geotechnical Engineering by the Academy of Geo-Professionals in 2013. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University, an MS in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan. A Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, he is also the 2013 recipient of ASCE’s Excellence in Civil Engineering Education Leadership Award.
He began volunteering for ABET as a program evaluator in 1993. He has since filled a variety of roles with ABET, including EAC Commissioner and evaluation team chair. In addition, he served five years on its Criteria Committee. He has been on the ABET Board of Directors for the last five years and is also involved in their Executive, Finance and Governance Committees.
