Ryan graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering. Shortly after graduating, he started working on full‐scale foundation research projects with Professor Kyle Rollins and obtained his PhD in civil engineering from Brigham Young University. After graduation, he worked for several years with John Wallace, PE, DGE at IGES in Murray, Utah. Ryan partnered with Phil Gerhart, PE, F.ASCE, to form Gerhart Cole who has grown to 28 professionals since their humble beginnings working out of their homes in 2008. Professionally, Ryan provides technical services to private and public clients as a consultant and teaming partner. His experience includes progressive design‐build, design‐build, CM/GC, and design‐bid‐build project delivery where he continues to develop practical solutions for infrastructure. Ryan has worked as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University teaching courses and supporting research efforts. In 2016, Ryan was the recipient of the ASCE Engineer of the Year Award (Utah Chapter) and has also served as President of ASCE Geo‐Institute, Utah Chapter. Ryan is currently learning from many talented professionals as a board member for the American Counsel of Engineering Companies of Utah.
