About

Dr. Ming Xiao is a Professor and Director of the Civil Infrastructure Testing and Evaluation Laboratory (CITEL) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on design and performances of civil infrastructure from investigating fundamental mechanisms to full-scale performances using experimental, numerical, and analytical methods. He currently leads several NSF-funded projects to study the permafrost degradation and coastal erosion and their impacts on civil infrastructure and community wellbeing in the Arctic. He employs numerical modeling and in-situ testing (such as distributed acoustic and temperature sensing technologies) to investigate permafrost degradation. He is a Lifetime Member of the U.S. Permafrost Association, a Fellow of the ASCE, and a Diplomate of Geotechnical Engineering (D.GE) in the ASCE Academy of Geo-Professionals.
