Michael Byle has more than 30 years of professional experience in civil and geotechnical engineering and is currently National Discipline Lead for Civil and Geotechnical Engineering at Tetra Tech, Inc. He is responsible for corporate technical quality for civil, structural and geotechnical engineering services, management of complex projects, training, expert consultation and professional development of technical civil and geotechnical engineering staff. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a BSE and MSE in civil engineering with a concentration in soil mechanics and foundation engineering. His experience includes work on both terrestrial and marine projects for public and private sector clients, project management, investigations, studies, and design. His background includes extensive experience in investigation and rehabilitation of structures and foundations, soil improvement techniques, grouting, stormwater management including infiltration and Best Management Practices (BMP’s), exploration and mitigation design for karst, and project management for civil, geotechnical and geo‐environmental projects. Expert consultation experience includes specialty areas of grouting, karst, foundation rehabilitation and restoration, NPDES and mining permit appeals.  Specific technical experience includes evaluation and stabilization of soft sediments, dredged materials, grouting and grouting design, groundwater studies, as well as, environmental geotechnology and applications of engineering geophysics. He has published more than 25 peer reviewed technical papers and instructs ASCE Webinars on grouting and karst.
